The Suter Cafe

Location: Bridge St, Nelson
Area: 190sq.m
Year of project: 2016
Completion: 2017

The Suter Café is housed in the new Bishop Suter Art Gallery which was redesigned in 2014 by Jerram Tocker Barron Architects.

Expansive glazing opening out to Nelson's classical Queen's Gardens and pond provided the impetus to draw the external environment in to the café.  Elements of reflection, transparency and light drove the fit out with Mirror-clad walls and reflective metallic tilling and lampshades. The opulent feel of the space is grounded by bespoke furnishings in maple hardwood, with depth added in the use of blackened steel for shelving and glossy black tiles surrounding the food service area. A fully equipped commercial kitchen and larder was also designed.
